Fukuoka is the second most popular international convention city in Japan for the last 6 consecutive years. The city hosted 336 international conventions in 2015 alone.

Monocle Magazine(2016) ranked Fukuoka the 7th “Most livable city in the world.”

Fukuoka’s growth is enhanced by its relatively youthful population. The number of 20 to 30 year olds is considerably higher than the Japanese average. This is obvious even to the casual observer, and can be seen by walking through the streets of Fukuoka City. Much of this is due to the concentration of universities and colleges. Another reason is that Fukuoka offers the preferred lifestyle of many younger Japanese.
Fukuoka’s population, as of June 2014, was 1,509,893 and steadily growing. Among that population are relatively large numbers of young people and foreign residents. The foreign resident population is currently near 25,000.

The region counts 125 higher educational institutions and 50 of them are in Fukuoka with a rare cluster of 7 medical universities and institutions which draw more international conventions.

Fukuoka’s weather tends to be on the warmer side. In the winter, the city may see a few snow flurries, but no accumulation on the ground. The colder months tend to be confined from the middle of December to the middle of March. Winter in Fukuoka is similar to that experienced in Vancouver. The months of June through the end of September tend to be hot without exception, with warm to tropical evenings and considerable humidity. Only very light clothing will be needed during these months. While early autumn is the start of typhoon season in Japan, Fukuoka’s exposure to typhoons is usually mild, and the weather is quite pleasant and clear during this season outside of any actual typhoon. The city has an overall year-round average temperature of 17 degrees Celsius.
